Let’s set the record straight once and for all: We are ambitious, but we are not fanatics!
Our sustainability criteria is a product of an eagerness to do more, and we have done our very best in order to obtain a platform with a varied choice of sustainable furniture, lighting, home accessories and lifestyle products. Sometimes it’s been tricky and sometimes it’s been straighforward . Mostly, it’s been an individual evalution of every single product taking into account a variety of factors. You can read more about these factors and our take on sustainability in the sections below.
The YUME Promise
As we have a 360-´degree approach to sustainability, we have decided to pitch in and do our part. We will donate 10% of our profits to an NGO that will help us reinvest this money where it can do most good. The idea is to support local artisans around the world. We have so many skilled people out there. Why not help them grow their ideas and local designs?
Our donations will, ultimately, lead to products we can sell in our shop. This way, we’re not only fostering local artisans’ ability to create, but also providing them with an opportunity to sell their pieces and thus make a living for themselves. It’s a win-win for everyone involved.
We call this initiative the YUME promise. And we will stick by it every day.
Partnership with UNIDO
By teaming up with UNIDO, a specialised agency under the UN, we have initiated cooperations with local artisans that are skilled with their hands, have a strong design heritage to draw from, but are also limited in their sales options. We are currently working with UNIDO on a project, Creative Mediterranean, involving seven countries: Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine and Tunisia.
Creative Mediterranean is a collaborative project funded by the European Union and Italy, and implemented by UNIDO. The main goal is to increase the participants’ economic opportunities based on a unique value added: Cultural heritage. We believe this cultural heritage comes to life in the handpicked products we have decided to support from the project.
If you have questions, comments or great ideas on how to approach sustainability in the home, please don’t hesitate to get in contact with us. We will gladly continue to evolve and further develop in close dialogue with anyone who has a voice, an opinion or specific knowledge within this very tricky field full of complicated choices and self-contradictory dilemmas.
